FOUR members of the same family battled it out on the Denbigh Golf Club course over the weekend.

Jenny Jones held her Presidents Day at the club on Saturday. However, what made it more unusual than most competitions was the fact that her husband John Arwel, son Wyn and daughter Bethan all competed in the event.

177 players took part on the day arranged by Jenny, who is also president of the Denbighshire and Flintshire County Ladies Association).

Perfect weather conditions on Saturday provided a great opportunity to play some golf and some really took advantage of that to put in some great performances.

The President's Trophy was eventually handed match and handicap chairman Don Walmsley, who achieved a splendid score of 45 points. Luke Jones finished second with 43pts.

In the Silver Division, Dion Jones was crowned champion with 40pts, Haydn Owen was runner-up with 39pts and Andrew Witton came third with 38pts.

Meanwhile in the Bronze Division, Chris Bamber and Tony Davies all did well to achieve a score of 41pts each.

In the ladies competition, Margo Stubbs came out on top with 40pts, with Christine Jones in second with 39pts and Bethan Jones third on 36pts.

Nearest the Pin on Presidents Day for the gents was Kieran Shaw and for the ladies was Tanya Morris.

Another competition held recently at Denbigh Golf Club was the Ron Lamb Cup.

On August 13, 97 players came down to just two in the silver division - when eventual champion Huw Parry (72-5. 67) and Garry Morgan (73-5. 68) battled it out for the top spot.

The pair returned excellent results again, emphasising to the young guns there is more to golf than length off the tee. In third was Gareth O'Loughlin (80-11. 69).

Overall winner was Ben Wilcox Jones (80 – 15. 65) with Aled Howells (77-11. 66) finishing as runner-up).

Elenor Osei-Frimpong came out on top in the Bronze Division with a score of 104-35. 66. Runner-up was Luc Vanderrbijl (83-16. 67) and in third was James Thomas (91-23. 68).

Two days earlier, the Monthly Medal and Maddocks Trophy competition for ladies saw Sandra Morris Jones crowned champion with a score of 89-20. 69. Runner-up was Nest Houghton (101-31. 70) with Abigail Wynne Jones in third (92-22. 70).
