CORWEN Football Club has revealed pictures of the work being carried out on its youth clubhouse this week and it includes a touching tribute to one of its legends.

Major renovations have been taking place at the club's War Memorial Park ever since the start of last year and the coronavirus pandemic hasn't put a stop to that.

In early 2020, it was announced that Corwen would be erecting a new 250-seater stand.

Work began on that in July 2020 and it was named after club stalwart Huw 'Chick' Jones - a devoted clubman and councillor who died five months earlier, aged 62.

That was the second stand of its kind to be built at Corwen's home ground, with the first, a 100 seater, named after fellow club legend Tudor Jones, who gave 30 years of his life to Corwen FC.

The much-loved Huw Chick spent around 50 years with Corwen FC, going from playing as a junior at the club, to being a goalkeeper and manager with the first team and finally president.

His legacy is now living on once more thanks to the latest renovations at the Dee Park clubhouse as a mug with his nickname on proudly sits above the Corwen FC trophy cabinet in the clubhouse.

Commenting on social media, club supporters agreed that the makeover 'looks amazing' and director of football Ian Evans said he 'can't wait' for the club to 'show off the finished product later this year'.

When football resumes following Covid-19 restrictions being eased, Corwen will play in the new-look tier three North East, having been relegated from Cymru North (now FAW Championship) at the end of a curtailed 2019/20 campaign alongside Porthmadog and Llanfair United.

Joining them in tier three will be the likes of Cefn Albion and Chirk AAA.

The club is currently on the lookout for a first team manager, with Nick Jones having recently left the role.
