DENBIGH Harriers have recently returned to action following the resumption of organised group activities in line with the updated Welsh Government Covid-19 guidelines.

A variety of different sessions, from the progression group runs on Monday to speed sessions on a Tuesday and more, allows opportunities for everyone to run at their own pace and on the terrain they like best.

Two Harriers made the longed-for return to racing on Saturday morning. After a year of virtual challenges Emma Collins and Mel Morris braved the rain and headwinds (and the border) to take on the Tatton Park Trail 10k at Tatton Park in Cheshire.

It was a full and competitive field of 500 runners on an undulating course of paths and closed roads where runners were set off in waves, and pairs, to meet Covid guidelines.

Despite the horrendous weather both Harriers enjoyed the chance to race again; running in the last two miles almost side by side, both were happy with their ‘first time back’ performances.

Emma had a fantastic run coming in 15th female, 2nd V55 in a time of 44:56. Mel came in 16th female, 4th V45 in 45:19.

Tony Wood and Sioned Griffiths also braved the weather on Saturday to take part in Out-fit’s Llangollen Round guided challenge, which was a 33 miles route with over 5200’ of ascent.

This route was mostly run following footpaths and tracks on the Berwyn and Llantysilio hills, keeping to the low footpaths for the first few miles to shelter from the wind and rain.

After a misty start the weather improved toward mile 24 and afforded fantastic views of Castell Dinas Bran from Eglwyseg mountain, making the effort worthwhile!

Denbigh Harriers has also started a junior section (12 to 17 year olds) who have shown great development in their speed and technique over the last few weeks. This group trains at the Denbigh Rugby Club on Saturday afternoons at present.

All members must register beforehand for track and trace purpose, and adhere to social distancing during activities, but the turnout has been fantastic with group members enjoying running in each other’s company again.
