CORWEN'S first away friendly of their latest pre-season campaign saw them face a trip to Cae Ffwt to take on Glan Conwy in a match which produced seven goals.

The visitors came away victorious 4-3 following a thrilling contest.

The deadlock was broken in the 18th minute, when a great ball was played in and Corwen captain Scott Evans had a great first touch in the centre of the penalty area to control the ball before slotting it in to the back of the net.

A couple of minutes later Tom Williams tried to double his side’s lead when he lined up a shot, but a great last ditch tackle prevented him from having an effort at goal.

Midway through the half new signing Jack Rogers tried a shot from distance, but his effort cleared not only the goal, but also the perimeter fence and headed towards the railway line, but luckily there were no passing trains at that moment.

The hosts had a chance when keeper Danny Jones came off his line to challenge an attacker. Jones got something on to the shot to prevent it going towards goal and the follow up shot from a Glan Conwy player went over the bar.

As the game headed toward the break a clumsy challenge saw Glan Conwy awarded a penalty, which their striker scored to make it 1-1 at the break.

Five minutes after the restart the visitors failed to clear their lines, allowing Glan Conwy to get a shot away, which was parried by Jones but followed in for 2-1.

Corwen then had the opportunity to level the scores a couple of minutes later when they were awarded a penalty. Scott Evans took, and despite the keeper diving the right way, the ball went into the net.

As the game entered final ten minutes Glan Conwy looked to play the ball out from the back, but the away side closed the play down well and eventually allowed the ball to be played across to Tom Williams, who slotted the ball in for 3-2.

Corwen were able to find a fourth goal from an unlikely source as Glan Conwy’s left back played the ball back towards his own goal, but he put too much on to the pass, resulting in the ball going into his own net.

Glan Conwy still had time to pull a goal back in stoppage time when they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box, which their striker was able to curl around the wall and into the corner of the net.

4-3 the score then and Corwen in a determined mood ahead of their new campaign in the new-look tier three.
