PROGRESS has certainly been made by RGC over recent weeks.

The North Walians lost 60-5 at Cardiff to start the season, but the return Welsh Premiership Cup contest in Colwyn Bay proved to be far closer.

The side from the capital would edge to a 15-8 triumph on this occasion.

RGC head coach Ceri Jones took plenty of positives from the match and he said: “We head into the week off being able to assess where we are, and we have made huge improvements.

"We are growing as a group and when you think we have six senior players to come back to add that experience.

"In the past two weeks we have had a couple of decisions that have not gone in our favour and it has cost us."

RGC were 8-5 ahead at the interval thanks to a try from winger Keiron Dixon and a penalty by Dion Jones.

Cardiff's first half try came from Ben Murphy, while Sam Moore's try saw them take the lead after the break.

A conversion and a penalty saw Cardiff stretch their lead to seven points.

Mold lost out 31-21 in their North Wales Bowl trip to Newtown.

The visitors' tries came from Reece Le Tissier and Ryan Kirby, with Jack Lawrence kicking three penalties and a conversion.

Also in the North Wales Bowl, Colwyn Bay defeated Bangor 26-9 and Bethesda edged out Llangefni 12-11 in the North Wales Cup.

Turning to the North Wales Shield and Llangollen-based Bro Gwernant lost 37-17 at Newtown seconds, with Ruthin seconds winning 32-12 at Bala seconds.

A serious injury to a visiting player meant that Machynlleth's Welsh Bowl match at Welshpool had to be abandoned.

Lloyd Roberts (3), Jason Andrews, Jacob Hughes and James Price (2) were the try scorers as Wrexham triumphed 43-15 in their friendly at Firwood Waterloo.

There was also friendly success on their travels for Shotton Steel with a 47-19 outcome at Denbigh seconds.

Points aplenty were the big feature as Rhos won 76-26 in their friendly at home to Mold thirds.

In the North East Wales Youth League, Ruthin saw off Bala 19-5.
