CORWEN are in goal-den form when they face Kerry.

The previous Ardal North East League meeting between the sides saw Corwen run out 5-0 winners and the Dee Valley side were smiling again on Saturday as they defeated Kerry 4-1.

The match took place in awful weather conditions, with heavy rain and a chilly and strong wind blowing throughout most of the contest.

Corwen made a good start, with Danny Jones' strike from the edge of the box going wide.

They didn't have to wait too long to take the lead and on 11 minutes, Tom Williams' pass released Kevin Day to place the ball beyond Kerry keeper James Windsor-Allen.

Soon after, Windsor-Allen saved from Williams, while at the other end, David Walsh saved from Charlie Mainwaring.

It was level from the resulting corner, though, as Harry Pooler scored an own goal.

After the interval, Kerry threatened again through Mainwaring, but his shot was blocked by Ryan Billington.

Corwen did regain the lead following a long ball from Scott Evans.

It found Tom Williams, who put the ball in the net to make it 2-1.

Harry Pooler headed into the net, only for this to be ruled out for offside, however Corwen did soon have their third goal.

Initially, Pooler's effort was again disallowed, this time for a foul on the goalkeeper, but after consulting his assistant, referee Cory Wellbeloved did award the goal.

It was game, set and match with six minutes to play when a Tom Williams shot hit the post and rebounded into the path of Scott Evans, who had an unguarded net to aim for after James Windsor-Allen had committed himself to attempting a save.

The linesman initially had his flag up, but after consulting with the man in the middle he quickly put it down again, meaning that the goal could be awarded.
