TWO Denbigh boxers were able to claim victory at a Liverpool show.
Joe Roberts proved that by hard training you can overcome the toughest of opponents.
In his first fight for several years, his fitness and superior boxing skills took him to a points victory over the dangerous hard punching Jamie Sweetman
Roberts was able to hold him at bay with an educated straight left, but Sweetman was not to be denied and he took Roberts into the trenches when he got past his left hand .
After two rounds the scoring was one round each and both boxers were very tired, but Roberts' dedicated training proved the difference in the third round.
At times, it seemed that Sweetman was there to be taken, but he always roared back from the brink of getting stopped
Both boxers were completely sold out by the end of a crowd-pleasing contest, with Roberts a narrow but deserving winner.
Also on the bill and having his first contest was McCauley Chamberlin, who surprised everyone by using a good straight left followed by a sustained body attack to clearly outpoint a rough, tough Manchester boy.
