BRILLIANT RGC caused a major stir as they triumphed 32-31 in a thriller at Premiership leaders Newport.

This was only the black-and-ambers second league loss of the season and it was confirmed by Dion Jones' late penalty for the visitors.

There was an open and topsy-turvy first half, with Newport eventually going into the break 21-15 to the good.

RGC had the first points on the board with Dion Jones' third minute penalty, but Newport replied with a converted try.

Back came the visitors and they went back in front when Zach Clow crossed for a try in the corner, which was converted thanks to a great kick by Dion Jones.

Newport regained the lead with their second converted score and the black-and-ambers had some breathing space when Matt O'Brien grabbed their third try of the afternoon.

RGC weren't quite finished in the first half, though, and good work from Dion Jones and Afon Bagshaw set up Rhys Tudor for an unconverted score to reduce the deficit to just six points at the interval.

Newport gained their bonus point try when the second half got underway via wing Matthew Powell and O'Brien duly added the conversion points.

It was by no means game over, though, and the North Walians were celebrating again when Bagshaw collected the ball on the bounce for his side's third try of an entertaining contest.

Jones added the extras and Newport's lead was now 28-22.

That deficit was turned on its head as the half developed.

RGC's bonus point arrived when they grabbed a try after a maul from a lineout and Dion Jones' conversion put the visitors a point ahead.

O'Brien booted a penalty to regain the lead for the hosts late on, only for Jones to reply with the winning kick.
