CORWEN'S promising start to the North Wales Cricket League Division Four season has continued.

Playing host to Halkyn Seconds in their second match of the campaign, it was Corwen who came on top by a healthy 61-run margin to preserve their undefeated record in 2022.

Runs were hard to come by, though, and Corwen had to be satisfied with their innings of 132 for five from 40 overs batting first.

Former Llangollen player Gareth Rigden top scored with 27 as a number of home batsmen enjoyed decent starts to their knocks.

John Wildman (24), Nathan Aldridge (18), Tom King (17 not out) and Harry Pooler (16 not out) also played their part as Corwen set a target.

Gareth Thomas grabbed 2-30 for Halkyn.

Only Shaun Gibson (22) and James Beresford (19) reached double figures as the visitors responded with 71 all out.

Doing the damage with the ball were William Pooler (3-18), Jack Halls (3-14) and Gareth Rigden (2-3).

This victory sees Corwen third in the Division Four rankings, five points behind second-placed Hawarden Park Thirds but with a game in hand.
