AS far as starts to the season go, it couldn't have gone any better for Denbigh.

The North Wales Cricket League Division One frontrunners made it six wins from six matches for the season as they saw off the challenge of visitors Gwersyllt Park.

This triumph keeps the Ystrad Road outfit 16 points clear at the top of the standings.

Denbigh were invited to bat first during this latest contest and they were in a spot of bother when they were reduced to 19 for two early on.

The in-form Harrison Jones managed to steady the ship with his knock of 42.

However, when Jones departed, a below-par total looked to be on the cards with the hosts on 113 for five.

Andy Clarke helped to recover the situation as he struck 52 batting at number six and a number of other important efforts saw the home side past the 200 mark.

Joe Lewis (23), Andy Thomas (13 not out) and Stuart Griffiths (16) made sure Denbigh's 45 overs yielded 201 for nine.

Lewis Cole (3-13) was the star bowler for Gwersyllt Park.

The visitors were soon in trouble when it was their turn to bat and maximum points was Denbigh's target when the innings stuttered to 53 for six.

Cai Pearson (35), Shashiska Meistry (25) and Neil Pearson (25 not out) boosted the total to 155 for nine by the time the overs ran out.

Alec Lewis, Stuart Griffiths and Joe Lewis all grabbed two wickets apiece.
