IT was always going to be a tough ask for St Asaph 2nds in their home clash with North Wales Cricket League Division Two leaders Bethesda.
The Gwynedd side are strong favourites to take the title this summer and they strengthened their grip on top spot with a seven-wicket success at Elwy Grove Park.
St Asaph were invited to bat first after losing the toss and they found themselves being bowled out for 79.
Opener Gareth Jones (32) and David North (15) were the main scorers, while Carwyn L Williams picked up 2-7 in nine tight overs.
Williams then struck an unbeaten 38 as Bethesda replied with 82 for three.
North (2-12) and Mike Thompson (1-28) shared the wickets.
