WHAT a response to a midweek defeat it turned out to be from Ruthin Town.

A last gasp goal in midweek saw Phil Hudson's side agonisingly beaten 2-1 by Cefn Druids, however it all came right at Guilsfield in the second round of the Welsh League Cup.

The Mid Walians will have been favourites in many people's eyes, having finished third in Cymru North last season.

However, Ruthin were the dominant side on their travels and a second half strike sealed their progress.

The pivotal moment came in the 78th minute when Gwion Owen grabbed the only goal of the afternoon.

Victory was achieved by the players working hard and listening to instructions, said boss Phil Hudson.

He told the club's YouTube channel: "We changed our shape and I think it's worked today.

"We had a game plan. We told them before the game stick to your game plan, work hard and the result will take care of itself and it has.

"I think we were worthy winners today. We probably could have scored a few more goals, but the pleasing part of it is they've done their jobs that we've asked of them, which on Tuesday they never.

"It's hard to take a defeat when you haven't done what's asked of you and that's the difference today. They've listened to what we've said in the dressing room."
