BALA Town have secured their fist Cymru Premier League win at the third time of asking.

Newtown were the visitors to Maes Tegid over the weekend, but it was the Lakesiders who were on top to record a fine 3-0 win to get their campaign up-and-running.

Following a defeat at the hands of Penybont and a draw with Haverfordwest to open the season, Colin Caton's side were determined to claim the three points.

Chris Hughes' Newtown made a bright start, with Bala keeper Alex Ramsay forced to tip an effort wide in the first minute.

However, Bala made the most of their pressure after this with two goals in the space of two minutes.

It was ex-Welsh international Dave Edwards who gave Town the lead with a volley from close range after terrific work from Lassana Mendes on the edge of the area.

Then, soon afterwards, a brilliant finish on the volley from Ollie Shannon made it 2-0 and had Bala well in the box seat.

Newtown almost pulled one back on 58 minutes when Aaron Williams diverted his attempt just wide of the target.

However, it was game over when Bala then grabbed a third goal.

Man of the match Lassana Mendes put the game to bed.

Bala will be looking to make it two wins on the bounce when they head to Connah;s Quay Nomads on Tuesday evening.
