A PERFECT season has resulted in promotion for Denbigh.

Needing just four points from their home clash with Dolgellau, Denbigh instead bagged maximum points to achieve promotion from Division One of the North Wales Cricket League in style.

That made it 19 wins from 19 matches for the Ystrad Road side, who will take the title if they triumph in two of their remaining three games.

Although it was such a big encounter, there were no signs of nerves as Denbigh batted first.

Everybody in the top order played their part as Denbigh raced to 335 for seven in their 45 overs.

Gerallt Lyall (68) and Sam Lewis (42) set the ball rolling with a 104-run opening stand, before Lyall and Harrison Jones (62) then put on 104 for the second wicket.

There was no respite for the visitors, thanks to Archie Sussex (53), Tom Schrimshaw (24) and Andy Clarke (20), while Stuart Griffiths hit 12 not out from just three deliveries.

It was celebration time for the hosts when Dolgellau were all out for just 111 in reply.

Joe Lewis was the star performer with the ball, snapping up 5-25 in 8.2 overs.

Also among the wickets for Denbigh were Harrison Jones (3-8) and Alec Lewis (1-45).

Denbigh could wrap up the title this Saturday if they claim a big win at second-placed Halkyn.
