DENBIGH could not have wished for a better outcome on their return to North Wales Cricket League Premier Division action.

Last season's Division One champions began the season with a trip to Gresford and a low-scoring affair saw Denbigh come out on top by six wickets.

Visiting skipper Harrison Jones opted to spend the early portion of the match in the field after winning the toss and this turned out to be the correct decision.

Scoring turned out to be tricky and Daniel Williams' 24 was the main contribution in Gresford's 67 all out.

Take a bow Joe Lewis, who finished with a fantastic 5-9 return from his 10 overs.

Captain Jones also played his part with figures of 2-15 and there was a wicket apiece for Ifan Jones, Stuart Griffiths and Josh Jones.

A swashbuckling approach was not taken by the visitors when it was their turn to reply and they reached a winning 68 for four in the 31st over.

Harrison Jones showed great patience to end up on 14 not out from 88 deliveries to guide his side to victory.

Gerallt Lyall (13) and Tom Schrimshaw (16) also played their part in the chase, as Simon Perry claimed 2-22 for Gresford.
